At the Institute of Materials Resource Management at the University of Augsburg, the Chair of Technology Assessment (Prof. Lindner) is seeking to fill the position of an

Academic Counsellor (m/f/d)
in the function of a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d)

within the scope of regular working hours. The civil servant position is initially limited to three years. An extension in the context of further scientific qualification is possible if the relevant requirements are met. If the personal and civil service requirements are met, remuneration will be paid in grade A 13. The position can be filled on a part-time basis, provided that full-time performance of the duties is ensured through job sharing.

The Institute for Materials Resource Management (MRM) at the University of Augsburg addresses the holistic development and implementation of resource-efficient materials, processes, products and technologies, which are of great importance for a sustainable future. The Chair of Technology Assessment within the MRM deals with technology assessment using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), in particular the inventory modelling of future technologies, the impact assessment of land-use processes, and methods of decision support based on LCA results. We also regularly advise companies and civil society organisations.

Your tasks:

  • Support the development of the Chair of Technology Assessment, in particular
  • Supporting the acquisition of third-party funded projects
  • Supporting the scientific and administrative processing of research projects
  • Support in the external presentation of the professorship
  • Teaching 5 semester hours per week, including organising courses and taking examinations
  • Supervision of final theses
  • Assistance with examinations
  • Administrative activities in the areas of teaching, academic self-administration, external presentation
  • Additional academic achievements with the aim of a habilitation or equivalent would be desirable

Recruitment requirements:

  • Completed university degree in a relevant subject (e.g. environmental engineering, environmental sciences, sustainability sciences; depending on specialisation also process engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering)
  • Completed doctorate on a relevant topic related to sustainability (must be completed at the time of recruitment; may still be open at the time of application)
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German and English

Proof of the required qualifications must be provided in the application documents in the form of relevant certificates.

The following qualifications are also advantageous:

  • Experience in grant acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects
  • Ability to work independently, reliability in the delivery of results
  • Practical LCA experience, for example in consulting
  • Experience in academic teaching and thesis supervision
  • Experience in using software packages for process engineering (e.g. Aspen) or spatial analyses (e.g. QGIS)
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Organisational skills
  • Publications in national and international journals
  • Additional language skills beyond German and English
