Career
Anna Berger has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of English Language Education at the University of Augsburg since October 2024. In addition, she works as a reporter for the Schw?bische Zeitung. She earned her doctorate at the Chair of English Literature and Gender Studies at the University of Tübingen. Her dissertation focuses on the topic “The Spectres of Masculinity: Manhood in Victorian and Edwardian Ghost Stories, 1860–1914.”
She studied to become a secondary school teacher (English/German) at the University of Tübingen and, during that time, worked as a foreign language assistant for ten months at a grammar school and a comprehensive school in Colchester (England). After passing the First State Examination (Erstes Staatsexamen), she completed a traineeship at the Südwest Presse. This was followed by a trip around the world and a brief period working as an editor before she returned to university to pursue her doctorate. For this, she received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
Alongside her doctoral studies, she worked as a freelance journalist for the German Press Agency (dpa) and as a lecturer in English Literature and Cultural Studies at the universities of Tübingen and Potsdam. From 2021 to 2023, she was a lecturer (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben) in journalism at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences.
